MOS, sustainable schools are smart schools
MOS is a programme focusing on sustainability, nature and environment for primary and secondary schools (ages 2,5 till 18).
It is a cooperation between the Flemish Government, the 5 Flemish provinces and the Brussels Region. Its 17 coaches en 5 coordinators guide schools on their road to become sustainable schools.
MOS believes that we can all learn together in order to make sustainable choices for the planet. Using tools like intensive pupil participation, teamwork and networking, we bring children out of school and into society and bring society into schools.
Schools supporting our vision can become members of the MOS community, they can put their name on the MOS Map, and they receive a logo to visualize their commitment on the school gate. One of the benefits of the programme is that they can use public transport for free when going on nature and environment excursions.
MOS focusses particularly on the themes ‘greening our school’ and ‘climate change’. In addition to coaching the school teams, it organizes teacher trainings and networking events, and shares information and practices using Facebook and www.mosvlaanderen.be . Thick jumper day (each year in February) and Outdoor Classroom Day (each year in April ) motivate the schools to take action. MOS is the national operator of the FEE Eco-Schools programme.
